FAQ's
How often should I take my car in for a Major Service?
Approximately once a year or every 15,000-18,000 miles. (Please contact us if you would like in-depth information on why we feel this is important)
Should I rotate my tires?
If there is an uneven wear pattern on the tread your tires should be rotated, making sure that they are re-balanced and the air pressure is corrected. Always remember that a two wheel or four whell alignment may be necessary as well.
What air pressure should I run in my tires?
Experience has shown that almost all BMW's seem to work best at 36 to 38 psi in the front tires and 28 to 30 psi in the rear tires. However we do recommend taking the tire manufacturers recomendations into consideration.
Why does my car's front-end shake?
3, 5, 6 and 7 series BMW's wear out the brake reaction rod (aka thrust rod bushings/upper control arm bushings) causing a noticeable shake in the steering wheel at approximately 47 mph, There may also be problems keeping your tires balanced at 60-65 mph.
Why do my brakes squeal?
The main reason is your brake pads have glazed from in-town driving and not using the brakes hard enough. Another reason they squeal is the asbestos, which helped dampen the squeal, has been forbidden in the U.S. You should routinely have your brake pads inspected for wear.
How often should the oil in my car be changed?
You should change your oil every 2,000 to 3,000 miles. Modern motor oils contain additives which neutralize corrosive acids and other harmful deposits that build up in your engine from cold starts and in-town driving. The effective lifespan of these additives is approximately 2,000 miles (see article on oil). Please note that we tend to err on the side of less miles versus more. With the implementation of longer lasting synthetic oils, you can go up to 4,000 miles (if you have synthetic in your car). However, we do not recommend waiting 15,000 miles to change your oil.
